Today we departed from Sharon’s Bluff to travel to Nauvoo and on to a KOA campsite. However as we started out a place caught our eye. A small museum at a nature place where we had previously camped. As we observed the amazing replicas of the animals found in those parts we could see the true blessing of animals. One of the perhaps more interesting animals was an albino deer as show here. We also observed many other interesting creatures such as otters, a live snake, and a flying squirrel.
From the museum we continued on to Nauvoo. Once we arrived, the first site we could see was the beautiful Nauvoo temple rebuilt in 2002. When we reached the visitor center we were told about the many things that there were to do in old Nauvoo. We visited an old brick yard; a blacksmith’s forge, and even enjoyed a covered wagon ride pulled by oxen. As soon as we finished in that old part of town we stopped by an ice cream shop.
The last place that we visited today was Carthage Jail. This was the site where Joseph Smith was martyred. There was a nice short film at the start of the tour that showed the brief life Joseph Smith. We were led through the Jail and we were shown the room that the shooting took place. They still had the original door with two bullet holes in it. We then left and continued on our trek until we stopped and set up camp at a KOA, La Salle, IL.
