Day 3 -- Nevada, with a dash of California and Utah

Today (or actually 2 days ago) was a really long day. We drove from Adam’s house in Pollok Pines to Salt Lake City. We drove along the Mormon Emigrant Trail/Road in California for about 2 hours. It was a very beautiful view (see below picture of Red Lake). I (Miranda) also learned how to use my low gears, which was a little bit of an adventure. We stopped at a couple of places including Tragedy Springs (The grave of the soldiers is to the left) and the Maiden’s Grave, while driving along the Mormon Emigrant trail/road.
After leaving the mountains, we quickly entered Nevada and went to Gardnerville where Joseph and Anita live. While we didn’t get a chance to meet up with them and visit, they we kind enough to let us use their house as a pit stop. We unloaded everything and re-packed the car before heading back off.
With miles and miles of Nevada highway to blast through, each of the kids had a chance to drive. Poor Jordan had (previously) never driven over 35mph, so driving a heavy suburban for an hour on a busy highway was a little bit intense. Meagan did a great job as well, putting in a couple of hours of driving as well. Adam and I both had a bit of an adventure while driving in Utah, as we were both driving late at night and with heavy winds. We didn’t last for very long (especially after it started raining) and our professional driver Grandpa took over for the last little (but difficult) portion of the journey. We rolled into town at about 1AM the next morning and because of a mix up with our travel plans, we had to find a motel that wasn’t too expensive and would house all of us. We found a Days Inn pretty quickly and it was an adventure shoving 6 people into a 4 person room. But regardless, we did manage to make it to Salt Lake City in the end. We’re all having a pretty good time, though the lack of sleep is catching up with some (okay ALL) of us. We love you all and can’t wait to see you and talk more about our adventures!
