Day 1 -- San Francisco/Oakland

One never truly comprehends the beauties of the world, there are simply far too many. Yet today I can safely say we have seen a few. Walnut Creek is a nice little piece of prosperous desert. It’s surprising to think that a place so beautiful and full of life is really part of a desert. When you look out at the wide landscape in you see some of the true beauty Cali holds. To the right of this text we’re standing on a vast lookout point, enabling you to see Walnut Creek. An interesting thing told to me is the unique climate in the area, from just Walnut Creek to San Francisco there can be a difference in temp by nearly 40 degrees.

San Francisco is another great wonder. You could probably go up to just about anyone and ask who founded it and they would have no clue. Well the truth is it was the Latter Day Saints. For pity’s sake I didn’t know that till my grandpa told us today. Other new piece of info is that part of the city is living on garbage!! Funny right? To create flat ground the people dumped landfill in the ocean and built many a building on it. In the early days San Fran was a bunch of tents and about two building. When the gold rush started in order to get word out the publisher of the local newspaper sent 200 copies to the other side of America.

Now the final beauty that we saw in San Francisco today was China Town. They have them in most the big cities, but I loved the one found in San Fran. Walking up and down the streets are a marvel in themselves. Everywhere you look you’ll see a samurai sword or a little Buddha quite a change from seeing, a magazine or a video. Once you walk down the streets of China Town you’ll never think that anything is ever cheap again. They have the smallest chops but they also have the most unique items and the lowest prices China town was the most cultural experience I’ve had yet on the trip.
